Stayer OMG

The OMG is Stayer’s anything-goes MTB frame. For Bespoked 2022, Lewis worked with Stayer to create a one-off, fully custom show bike to support the Ultra Distance Scholarship.

Lewis opted for a short a-c rigid fork, designed a custom Bullmoose handlebar fabricated by Sam at Stayer, and to research copper plating; to dive into the alchemical depths of copper oxides and verdigris. This approach initially drew inspiration from old nickel and chrome plated BMX bikes; these started a discussion about what else it might be possible to plate the frame with. Stumbling upon a lovely book on metal patinas and finishes, he was increasingly drawn to copper as a material capable of chemically reacting, aging, and weathering in all sorts of beautiful and interesting ways, taking on multiple material states, and highlighting some of the fabrication processes used to build the bike. It is in effect a 'live' finish; one that will continue to gain depth and texture as it ages.
